Col, if you download ccleaner, a very useful utility

Col - if you do decide to use Ccleaner, take care when using it. If you're not totally familiar with it, you can ask it to do something that looks like a good idea - and then subsequently find you've lost a lot of files! I'm not knocking Ccleaner - it's just that you have to be fully acquainted with what it says it will do and what it actually does. With experience, it all comes together very nicely - like most software utilities.

I referenced all the various Piriform Utilities in my original post on this thread - they are a good company with excellent free products...

In the many years I've been using CCleaner, I've never know it trash anything important - it can, if asked, do things like delete all the cookies on your system meaning you'll have to retype passwords etc. for some sites, but generally its quite difficult to make it do any actual damage - it's one of the safest such utilities I've ever used.

If you ask it to do things like scrub all free space on disk, that will, of course, take time. Just be sensible.
