Hi,
I used to wipe the hard drive also Joe when I used Win98 but this is a long winded affair. Its a long while since I did this but I recall I had to boot from CD then under "Set up" I would be warned a couple of times that if I proceeded the entire contents of the hard drive would be lost; next job was to format two spaces on the hard drive and this used to take forever then I could install a fresh copy of Win98; after doing it once it became much easier.
Wiping the hard drive under XP is straightforward enough and I have the option of repair or start over; the only problem I used to encounter was the keyboard settings as it was US/English and we know US isn't English as they can't spell over there. I also would end up with dollars instead of pounds but I got used to taking my time to get this bit right. A full wipe of my XP and getting the computer back to normal usually takes about four hours.
Thanks for the information Gary, Win7 sounds a lot easier than XP to install; the only problem with these operating systems they seem to be replaced too quickly but then I suppose this is good money for Microsoft? I'll give Win8 a miss though so thanks everyone for the warning. I too like my tower Gary and the PSU/fan is pretty quiet as I don't notice it much; it would be a shame to get rid of it as it is a good size and it already has a floppy and two DVD drives installed; I can copy a disc directly from one drive to the other.
I have an account with eBuyer Gary in fact this is where I bought the new monitor from and I'll have a look at what they have to offer because they are keenly priced with brilliant delivery. I'm now leaning towards building my own computer as I like a challenge and after fully restoring the Ekco T311 I think I'll pick it up quickly.
