I did a full wipe of my '98se machine about four years ago. The printer driver had gone u/s and re-installing it's driver didn't fix it and neither did re-installing the OS. I booted it under DOS and deleted as much of Windows as I could which meant it was in such a mess that the set-up program had to start from scratch.
This solved the printer problem but for ever after I had a yellow question mark. As everything worked I didn't worry about it and never did find out what it was for.
As to ageing, what I meant was that by 1993 my old XT was far more passed it than my five year old lap-top is now. I'm not claiming for a moment that it's state-of-the-art but it's more than adequate for what I want. I can't comment on it's ability at video rendering as that's something I've never tried to do.
