I think I've finally lost it!!
Just to recap (excuse the poor pun) I have replaced C51 on the trader sheet with a suppressor cap - correct or not. C60 on the trader sheet is the 0.5uF silver picopack type cap - I did think that this was an electrolytic and to be honest I haven't taken any notice of it whatsoever!
Help, I feel I'm slowly drowning in treacle!!

Where the maker's have a sheet, as is the case for the Bush VHF90 Rob, you're better off with that than the Trader sheet as the maker's is usually better, as is the case with the DAC90A and the VHH90, for which the Maker's sheet runs to 10 pages - the Trader sheet to just four. Also - as is always the case, they use different numbering which causes confusion when various people chip into a thread. To try to clear any confusion in you mind, this might help:
C60 on the Trader Sheet is in fact a 50uF smoothing cap, combined in one can with C55 - also 50uF. On the maker's sheet, these are numbered C54 & C48.
(C51 on the trader sheet is 0.04uF. I'm not sure where that comes into the scheme of things).
The cap which needs to be either cut out altogether as it will make no difference if it's ditched is C60 on the maker's sheet, which is C66 on the Trader Sheet. Namely, the modulation hum suppressor cap across the mains input - the one which often goes bang. If you delete it, you'll not notice any difernece or detriment in performance of the set (when it's finally working), but if you prefer to replace it, then it needs to be a class X cap. It was originally 0.05uF, no longer a preferred value, so you'd need to replace it with a 0.047uF.
If you follow Steve's suggestions stage by stage you should get there in the end. Personally, as I check or replace each component or check coils etc for continuity, I makes notes, and draw over that part of the circuit with a highligther pen, so I don't keep going round in circles.
Hope that helps a bit.
Don't get disheartened - it's a hobby after all - not one more thing to get stressed out about

Best of luck.
Night night!
