National Panasonic RF-100L - FM problem

Isn't/wasn't an OC171 an earlier version of the AF115 (or similar)? Bearing in mind the well documented 'tin whisker' problems with the AF11x series, presumably a more reliable type would be an AF125?
(I'm not in the process of fixing a RF-100L, simply thinking generally here)
