Obviously data-sheets are aimed at people who know what they are doing - apart from the details of that particular device. I have just the same trouble with valve ones. For instance, I know a pentode has a Control Grid, a Screen Grid and a Suppressor Grid but when checking the pin-outs they tend to be labelled G1, G2 and G3 which leads to pondering.

Joe - I do not wish to overstate my views in my earlier post, but those comments do require a response.
Re the 1st. paragraph: 'information' comes in various forms and 'colours'. Sometimes 'information' can be badly presented; sometimes comes with errors; sometimes abundantly superfluous; sometimes sadly lacking; sometimes it can be faultless. The key is having the basic understanding to distinguish the wheat from the chaff: to pick out those bits which are relevant to one's need: doing that requires knowledge. Moreover, in the opening sentence in your 2nd. paragraph you appear to agree with that. Your reference to valve electrodes illustrates the main points within my earlier post, to wit: the need to read, study & learn. No-one can be totally knowledgeable in all the fields of electronics engineering: in fact, we can and do need to learn more, even if that sometimes seems to be an endless task. But knowledge is power: here is an analogy. We identify an inadequacy in our comprehension: the pressure to learn. The rate at which we absorb knowledge as a consequence of that pressure produces the flow of information: it our resistance to that flow which limits its rate. The product of pressure and rate of flow = power accumulated: volts x amps = watts. Our resistance to learn = the pressure of the need divided by the rate of flow of that information: resistance = volts divided by amps.
