I switched my Roberts RT-1 on the other day and wasn't very impressed wit h the performance. It seemed to be lacking in sensitivity and the sound quality was poor. New batteries didn't help so I thought I'd have a go at the alignment using the CRO instead of my ears.

I connected this across the speaker and found it was indeed much easy than relying on my ears.
This has improved things, it was well out, but it seemed more sensitive between starting and finishing, albeit at that point the stations were in the wrong place.
What I'm chiefly wanting to know about is "Loose Coupling." I know this means to not make a direct connection but am a bit vague as just how to do it. The Trader sheet merely says "Loosely couple the signal generator output leads to the ferrite rod aerial."
I did it by connecting my Advance E2 to a jump lead wrapped around a pencil and then holding this next to the ferrite rod. I'm suspecting that there may be more to it than that as to be able to detect this signal the E2 had to be on full belt, ie all the attenuators set as high as they'd go.
