It isn't just radio and TV: several of my neighbours have problems with reception on Vodafone. I'm on Asda, which uses Vodafone's physical network, and I'm OK. If I stand on next-door's drive though the signal vanishes.
I agree that a roof-top VHF aerial is the best solution. To be truthful having managed this long I won't be bothering. If I DO want stereo there's DAB or the i-Player
