I watched it as well, I thought it was very good and I didn't fall asleep, I think that professor Jim did a good job he is very good at getting across the visionary thinking of some of the greats, it did not do the potted history of facts which most of us know and can put a tick againstas the program rolls on, but rather the idea of concepts and applications.
More to the point executable intructions that have revolutionised the way we communicate a la Jaquard, Morse, Turrin, Shannon etc.
The clay tablets and the printing press in effect did the same job, nothing new, the programable punch card/paper/electronic memory etc as a set of executable intructions was something else, put that into the context of instructions in nature and we as he says are only at the begining of a very long journey.
In my view professor Jim is one of the best presenters of this type of subject like Simon Scharmer is to history, I find both of them compeling when they do their documentary programs.
If I want a time line or a refresher on facts that I know or once knew then I can look on the web, if I want the thinking then I will watch programs such as that.
That's my take, others will differ.
