Maybe the temp switch is at the end of it's design life, you say it's a Teddington switch, if it's Teddington Controls I think they are still in buisness just up the road from here in St Austell, they used to do bespokes as well as I new a bloke who worked at that place designing temp switches etc. If no joy then you can try and suppress the BEMF on the existing temp switch using the usual methods or relay it via a heavier set of contacts, just an idea.
