It's the mechanical side of these high-spec things (though a PCR isn't that) which scares me more than the electronics. As you say though, information is available and time isn't an issue.

Hi Joe, if that "rare" PCR is the one I saw the seller was asking 500 quid for it just a bit OTT for one of them maybe. Yes plenty of room for a PSU inside etc.
Most of this old comms stuff isn't to complex so don't be put off, some of the later stuff needs a more carefull aproach such as the Racals etc but as said before its just a matter of working out what each section is supposed to do, most are single conv. superhets with one or two RF stages and a BFO Osc and maybe an Xtal filter on some models.
C'mon Joe take the plunge and get one on your bench and post on the forum.
