if you look at a modern circuit (post 1980 ?) there are componets that are marked safty! and must only be changed for parts recomended by the maker .they include mains switches, filtercaps, fuses ,and any number of other bits and pieces.as far as i know it would be illegal to repace them with parts that did not meet or exceed these specs .before that time there were no such
issues. in fact the makers seemed to use what ever was on hand.
i would like to know how many people got killed or badly hurt useing ac/dc sets.i would bet its very few.
i could go on about set top boxes no earth and only a small transformer to isolate the user sockets from the live mains.

if its made by hand it can be repaired by hand
