Mine, a plain old P76, doesn't hum either 
The only downfall on mine is the dial scale which looks as if it has been printed on to sticky tape which has then been applied to the clear Perspex dial facing, the tape has then bubbled a bit. It doesn't look great! Otherwise it's a lovely set, music sounds especially punchy through it. I would definitely buy another one if in better condition than mine.
