Thanks for your very kind words guys.
When I use the term 'dabble' Robert, what I mean is that though I try to work to the best of my ability, because I have so many other diversions, I furtle about doing lots of things, but I've never really been able to single-mindedly become deeply involved in anything to such an extent that some of my peers in the woodturning club do for example, but then they'll spend two or three weeks day-in day-out to produce a competition piece. It isn't so much that I don't have the inclination - I just don't have the time to raise my game, and as Clint Eastwood in his Dirty Harry persona once said 'A man's got to know his limitations'. Buzz Lightyear was more upbeat and optimistic - 'To infinity and beyond'!
As to the stamped lettering Colin, I did that at the end of the course, but I do have a letter stamp set.
The chair is just finished with two coats of shellac sanding sealer. I had the option of staining and oiling it, but thought it would look better un-stained.
Glad to hear that the pencil container is at home on your new desk!
I know it's OK to post off-topic stuff such as this in the right section of the forum and I've done so as there have been a few posts about lathes of late, but really, I guess ought to post something more relevant to radio, such as some of the homebrew test gear I've built over time, so I'll try to do that as time permits.
