I've been in your situation with things on e-bay that I've had my eye on - and then missed - many a time. Perhaps console yourself that if you had made a bid, there is no way of knowing if you would have won it anyway. Besides, what you didn't spend on that item is all the more £ available for the next irresistible item that comes along; a bit like buses, really.
