Calm yourself, it's only got one rf stage, EF39.
The Output stage is two EL33s, and yes, it does sound splendid. With a decent Aerial it's at least as good as run-of-the-mill Comms receivers of that era. It's said that it's the last am set that was designed to actually be listened to, worldwide.
I've got a complete one and a chassis, plus the export version - P41? - without LW. The latter is sealed up in a box 'cause it was said to have woodworm. I must get it out and see now that it's had two hard winters. According to the Trader Sheet there's also an A39J/H with slightly different valves, but I've never come across one, yet.
By the way, it's 39J/H - oblique between the J and the H.
