Well said, Joe. Many of us succeed because of the denigration by others. 'I'll show 'em' became a mantra to me, one I've used throughout life. Anyone saying 'You? You can't do that...' had to be shown how wrong they were. I'll admit that not everything I've turned my hand to has been of the highest quality but I can say with certainty that I've always given things my best shot. Like Col, I believe that people are limited mainly by their attitudes. It is far too easy to just say 'I can't do that' without even making the attempt.
