It seems to me that Mr. Average contents himself with learning the minimum to get through life, it being too much trouble to bother learning more. The WANT to learn is what is lacking, not the innate ability - which to a greater or lesser extent, we all possess. Col has shown us by his example that it IS possible to develop new skills. I believe that someone capable in one skill area should, all things being equal, be capable of becoming skilled in other areas. The main thing is application. True, there is the small matter of aptitude to consider; it isn't for us all to become master craftsmen but most of us can learn the basics of a craft or trade and become reasonably adept, either through want or need.
This computer desk is a beautiful example of Col's ability in woodwork - and individual design completed to a very high standard. Once again, Col, well done. You remain as an example to us all of just what can be achieved when we put our hearts and minds into a task. I view this thread as an inspiration, not a deterrent.
