Fair enough - health and safety is, after all, pretty paramount. As someone who has been caught out often enough by sockets it just seemed like quite a good idea. If people are going to buy and use universal(ish) adapters why not universal(ish) sockets for certain places?
Remember the good old days when you had to switch the power supply on things yourself? No problem going from 200 - 230V to 100V-120V. Plug it in, doesn't work properly then switch it over. When it's time to go, pack the thing away. On arrival back in 240V land you take the thing out, plug it in, switch on and bosh! there goes your portable appliance. It took me ages to learn to switch it back to 240V before packing it rather than think I would remember on arrival.
