I've never needed the portability that a laptop provides. I am so used to the keyboard layout of a desktop PC that on the odd occasions when I have used a laptop I have found that operating the keyboard to be a very annoying experience. I will always choose a desktop over a laptop simply because with a desktop I can maintain it hardware-wise - especially when it comes to the mechanical aspects. Not that I haven't repaired laptops: it's just that with laptops, the hardware availability and choices are so much less. And then there is the question of cost to consider.
