I use Firefox 3.6.28 under Windows 2000 + SP4, so using Chrome is not an option here.
Lawrence: I don't know what software & hardware you have there, but I suggest that you have a good look at the following:
(a) do you have any 'temp' files that are full of junk? If so, clean them out.
(b) have you run an anti-virus check lately? If not, now's the time.
© if you have any software installed to block / detect various forms of malware - such as spyware, remote monitoring s/ware, etc., now's the time to check for those sort of nasties too.
(d) Check you browser cache: it may be full of junk - including tracking cookies, etc. These things can really slow down a PC.
(e) Run a disk defragmenter program.
(f) Virtual disk size adequate? Usually, 2 to 2.5 times the amount of main memory (RAM) is the usual figure.
(g) Obvious, I know, but is your PC a 1 GHz machine or slower? If it is, then it's PC replacement time!
(h) Do you have enough real main memory installed? 512 MB absolute minimum; 1 GB better, 4 GB best of all.
(i) Wi-Fi connection? Are you getting a decent connection speed? Usually, something like 24 Mb/s (or less) implies a weak signal . . . . too weak.
There are probably some other factors I've over-looked. I'm sure someone
will add to that list.
