That's interesting, Mark. I was definitely taught at college that transistors were current controlled whereas valves had (sic) been voltage controlled.
Most of what we did was with bipolar BC108s though I always felt I'd a better idea of what an FET was up to; even the names of the legs made more sense. The same seems to have applied since learning a bit about valves.
