David, that's unacceptable of Epson. I have two Canon printers and both print on acetate quite happily and registration from a second pass is usually accurate. I did have an Epson some years ago that definitely printed on acetate well, but I went off the brand rather as the cartridges were expensive, short-lived and tended to clog. I buy the cheapest replacement cartridges for my Canon printers, never the 'genuine' types and have never had trouble with any except the Jet-Tech brand. I suspect it's a myth about damage to the printer when using non-branded cartridges. I've had my printers for years now - the IP5200 is about six years old and I use it for printing on CDs and DVDs.
I guess if I wanted to print exhibition-quality photographs things would be different - but then I'd be using a far better printer.
My 'newest' printer is a Canon MP560 and is still current, I believe, and this is a is a low-cost multifunction type, wi-fi, scanning, photocopying and printing. Might be worth a look. Staples may have stock to view.
