This dedicated WCR back cover jig is really very neat. I've made back covers for a couple of the wartime sets over the years but to do so I used a router table - with the router cutting upwards and the workpiece against the fence at the side and a clamped block of timber at the top. After every cut the set-up needed to be reset, a time-consuming and less accurate way compared with David's excellent jig.
Very well thought out, David.
I used 3mm MDF, for the sake of interest, and found that it routed cleanly without excessive breakout. Its better than standard hardboard, but having never tried the oil-tempered variety I can't comment further.
Great thread, this.
