since David's post already made me blush!To play my MP3's I have two transmitters - one is the SStran AMT3000 which comes as a kit, the other is an FM transmitter by Belkin (Tunecast II).
The AM kit is probably not what you'd call a beginners kit but its pretty straightforward to build and sounds great. The FM one is intended for use in the car - to connect an mp3 player to the in car radio. For the 3028 this is definitely the better option since it is very short range and the sound quality is the best. You don't need any external aerials for the Grundig since it has both AM and FM integrated.
Since my other radios are AM only, I use the SSTran for those.
I will let other experts on the team comment on legality of use of radio transmitters in the home
