Thanks Mark. I did actually consider a motorised drive when I first installed these blinds but in the end decided to keep it simple.

To be honest, I'd probably consider it, but would never get around to doing it. Although I'm a technical person, I draw the line at house automation. A good friend of mine, who also has a Victorian house, has some of this, and is forever talking about adding more and more, but personally, I find it rather strange to be plunged into darkness at midnight, just because his computer has decided that everyone should be tucked up in bed!

I'm pleased to add a picture of the mounting/bearing block Mark and hope it clarifies the arrangement. A plain bearing is just that; it is simply a hole bored through material allowing a shaft to rotate within.
