Well, final finish off for this job. Bits from Tedzed arrived (thanks) enabling me to put the speaker back in the cabinet along with the replacement o/p transformer, shortly followed by the white felt sheet for the rear of the control knobs a few days later. One sweatly moment a few days later when entering the workshop, found the dial cord had twanged off and sitting in a tangled heap. Issue traced to cord guide that was out of line with tuning wheel, a quick bit of bending and refitment cured all. Assembly was a breeze bearing in mind that the collective goo had been removed and brand new screws fitted but the gauge pointer track will need a light rub with a clean oily cloth as it squeals in operation, I cleaned it too well it appears.
One thing of note with these sets, LW will NOT work with the chassis out on the table and the internal loop aerial disconnected. If you get one of these with LW not working suspect the internal aerial first or the connection plug (which gets corroded) before progressing on. My concerns with the LW not being operational was a case of trying to run the set without the loop.
The rear cover is currently under the mattress being flattened prior to refit. New felt pads were fitted underneath, the original had rubber pads but these just fell apart, the pre-formed felt pads were a good compromise. The varnish on the case had had a few days now to go fully off and looks pretty good considering the state of the original case. Finally, the glass gauge looks really good with a re-sprayed white rear panel and two brand new bulbs. Sound quality is pretty reasonable considering the age of the set.
