Seeing as this is how it started here's the traces out of the amplifier.

Battery:-

I never said it was hi-fi :D

PSU:-

Both set to 20mV/Div, 2ms/Div, AC coupling.

EDIT: I've just been putting the oscilloscope away and found the time-base multiplier switch on X5. I said I was no expert!
