I suppose "Dictate" was a bit strong. My trouble is that I've never been much cop at dealing WITH people. I can take orders and give them but trying to organise things with people I don't know and who are too far away to see face-to-face is not for me.
What I initially had in mind was much simpler and I would have borne any financial loss. Mike was insisting that it take place on a Sunday, when the venue I had in mind isn't available and I'm just not prepared to jump through a load of hoops and being piggy-in-the-middle between the BVWS and a venue. I know if I try I'll end up telling them where they can stick a VHF3D - sideways! :@
A social get together as outlined above seems OK to me and there's nothing to loose.
The insurance thing is a bit odd as I was at a church do on Saturday and people were just walking in off the street with no sort of signing in and can't think when I've ever had to before. I would have assumed that if somebody sat on a chair which collapsed or some such the venue's insurance would cover it.
I can't see guests in my own house being any sort of issue - if they were then I'd never be able to let anybody through the door.
It was just an idea and obviously a flawed one and it's as well it was exposed early.
