Hi,
Thank's Lawrence.
I've now placed an order and paid for ten abrasive belts (minimum order).
As there is nothing confidential in the reply I received from "Abrasivesformetal" I am happy to copy the details as below;
"For tool sharpening it is usually better to have cloth backed belts and preferably in a heavy duty polyester backing to resist tearing. The finest we can offer would be 220 grade in a silicon carbide abrasive. Coarser grades are available in zirconium abrasive.
Going for 50mm wide would make the belts non-standard, but does cut down the material content and hence cost.
Prices per belt are:
Zirconium Grade 40: £3.35
Grade 60: £3.03
Grade 80: £2.88
Silicon Carbide Grades 120, 180, 220 £2.19
Min order qty 10/grade.
We can offer 15% discount off 2 or more batches.
Prices exclude VAT.
Delivery approx 10 w/days.
Whilst they are quite expensive it is perhaps worth looking at the technical finishing wheels now available for metal finishing. Grades 1 and 2 are particularly useful on hard metals. A web-link to the relevant page is:

I've ordered ten belts 120 grit Silicon Carbide. 50mm x 915mm. I couldn't believe it when I found out this company is local being here in Huddersfield. I'm so far delighted with their service with a very rapid reply to my email enquiry covering all the questions I asked.
Payment was easy by debit card over the telephone.
I'm also considering adding one of their 6" Dia. Technical finishing Wheels onto my Wolf grinder.
Kind regards, Col.
