ECC85s are often the culprit that caused many VHF sets to be pensioned off and consigned to the attic in the 60s or 70s. It's my guess that certainly by the 70s, most people used these sets on VHF only, and when the set went deaf, the cost of calling in an engineer even if one could be found in the post valve era, would have made no sense when a half decent transistor radio could be had for less than £20.00. But these are especially nice sets and well worth doing a full restoration on, as you are doing Paul. When released in March 1957, it was £35.10s.8d + 33% Purchase tax, three times the price of the austere MW/LW pre-FM era DAC90A, released three years earlier. As was the practice back then, the full price inc PT was stated not in pounds, but as 47Gns to make it look cheaper that it was. 47 Gns = £49.7s.0d, which today, accounting for inflation, equates to £890!
