Thanks for the info Rob, much appreciated, even if it did somewhat take the wind out of my sails re the mains arrangements!

I'm looking forward to spending time on this venerable machine soon. The intention is to have it running in a bedroom feeding an AM modulator to provide an occasional hour or two of vintage programme material for my valve radios.

I know I could just use a CD player but where's the fun in that?!
