Hi,
You are most welcome schottky and I'm pleased you find the information of use.
Much of our UK industrial heritage has gone down the tubes to be replaced by fast food outlets. I wonder what the old time great engineers would make of it now if they could see it.
It is scandalous that so much top class 3 phase machinery is being scrapped or shipped abroad; without being political if this carries on we will be reduced to bows and arrows should another war break out; even our top foundries like Forge-masters are struggling to remain in business.
I much prefer top quality old industrial machines to the modern tinny junk available to DIY'ers; give me cast iron beds any day and a machine I can power up that makes the hair at the back of my neck stand up.
Using 3 phase machines in a home workshop space permitting means I can run such machines for only short periods of time due to their huge output; a tinny modern machine is hard work and in my opinion far more dangerous to use.
As to the power factor; sorry but I haven't a clue without running through the DVD's once again but I'm sure Doug covers just about everything.
Please mention me (Colin Wood from Huddersfield) to Doug when you order the DVD's and I'm sure you will like Doug as he is such a great guy and extremely helpful; his DVD's are well worth the money for entertainment value alone running at 6 hours viewing time.
Isn't it always the case as soon as you have a clear out of stuff you've had kicking around for years as soon as its gone it is needed badly.
Please be extremely careful if you go ahead because one slip or mistake could be the last you ever make; 240V at 30A is lethal and once you start phase balancing a machine to the transformer the capacitors command a great deal of respect.
I would be very interested to follow your progress should you decide to start a thread showing work in progress. Good luck.
Kind regards, Col.
