I've made a start, and much good has it done me
I lashed up some timber supports so that I could get at it on the bench. As Joe said it's not the most Service friendly set. I didn't want to disconnect too many wires as they're pretty brittle in places. All the controls turned except the Wavechange switch, which is the problem that Col had. The rest were generally a bit stiff but OK. So, I applied liberal amounts of Plusgas to all the bearing surfaces on the Wavechange shaft and left it for a couple of days. Incidentally, Plusgas doesn't seem to exist locally so I got some mailorder. The next step was to try some gentle pressure on the Wavechange knob, which snapped the shaft instantly.
There aren't enough non-alphanumeric characters on the keyboard to represent what I said next. Of course I could/should have left it longer, applied a bit of heat with a soldering iron or heat gun or whatever. However, the deed is done and I'm now in the same camp that Col was. Fortunately I have his instructions.
I'll probably need a day or so to calm myself before the next step.
