As to taking out the R/C gear to use in a boat, the permitted UK frequencies for airborne models differ from surface models. For aircraft, the permitted allocations are in the bands 27 MHz, (rarely used nowadays), 35 MHz, 459 MHz and 2.4GHz. Surface model allocations are in the 27MHz band, 40 MHz, 459 MHz and 2.4GHz. The actual band-plan within those bands can be found on the website of the UK Radio Control Council, where you can also find a link to the relevant Ofcom pages.
