I've graduated from a fixed pitch DF4 heli to a 450 sized Esky Belt v2 - proper collective pitch 3D capable with heading hold gyro, LiPo battery etc. Yes - very tricky to fly, though I can just about hover the Belt on a calm day. But a rather impressive 'heavy landing' (my special term for slamming it into the ground' broke quite a lot of bits and I haven't got round to replacing them yet. I could fly the fixed pitch one round the garden until the battery ran out though, after many weeks of practice.
Tempted to take the radio gear out of the DF4 and see if I can find a use for it. Only 4 channels (two servo and two motor) but maybe it could go in a boat (prop, rudder and a spare servo and motor - rotatable fire hose and water pump?) Unfortunately I'm not sure if I'm allowed to use heli frequency kit in a boat legally.
