Little 'treen' grease box found

What sort of grease is in there and what would a Woodworking person use grease for?

Good question - the only thing I could think of was to lubricate screws when for example fitting hinges. Or maybe a ripsaw when cutting timber?

One of the small mysteries of life, but it won't keep me awake at night!

I'm puzzled by the shape, but I guess if the guy who made it was still around and I was able to ask him 'why did you make it that shape?' he'd most likely reply 'Because I could'
