Thanks for reading Rob, and for sharing your interest in model helicopters with us! A lot of RC models these days are 'out of the box' because the tendancy these days is for people to have 'pastimes' rather than 'hobbies' as we all have so many conflicting demands upon our time. Even boat and plane kits that do need assembly, tend to use a ready made GRP hull, or in the case of planes, styrofoam wings. I have a chum who flies RC planes, and they're all electric powered - not diesel as they used to be. They use 'lipo' batteries, which can be fast charged and can deliver many Amps briefly.
It's a truism that 'the only difference between men and boys, is the price they pay for their toys'!
As to the PT boat of Kennedy's it was 'PT109'. 'PT boats' were patrol torpedo boats, and models of PT109 were hugely popular in the sixites right up to 2000 and beyond. The PT109 story can be found here:
