Rob you are so right.
How often did you have to tell your customer that their set had a software problem? Did you have to tell them that there were no spares available, apart from the remote control handset, when their set was 18 months old?
Manufactures supported the service trade then, with access to spares, service data and technical help. These days it is just about extinct with manufactures unwilling to communicate unless you are spending mega bucks with them.
