Well done Alan; it's good to see another lathe in action. I never use suds (coolant) as the lathe is in the garage directly below our bedroom and the smell is objectionable.
Many older items that can be repaired will outlast the modern inferior items that are now built down to a cost removing as much material as possible and ignoring quality; as long as modern items last just long enough to survive the manufacturers guarantee they can then be thrown away and new ones bought.
I would never be without a wood turning or metal turning lathe as both are so useful and a delight use.
It's a shame to get the tool dirty now that you've given it a coat of paint.
