In Hungary you are legally obliged to have winter tyres during the winter months but I'm told in practice you can get away with not having them if you carry a set of snow chains. I want to make sure I've finished with the LDV van before winter as that has 6 wheels and is rear wheel drive!
When I first visited Hungary it was the end of February so it was still winter tyre season. We did get snow but fortunately I didn't get stuck anywhere, though it was touch and go at times. Fome friends did get their small UK reg. Rover stuck on a hill when returning to their home after taking me on a househunting trip. We were blocking the road and a Range Rover soon came up behind us. Four men got out of the Range Rover and pushed my friends car about half a mile to the top of the hill. They even let my friends daughter travel in their car as she was starting a panic attack with all the slithering about. I was impressed what a bunch of complete strangers would do to help a car full of Brits with the wrong type of tyres.
