Sadly no I didn't keep the LEDs they were too well fixed on the tree and would have been more trouble than they were worth.
I did a proper Electronics course about 17 years ago, so I do know how to do things "properly" but I hate being told I can't do things or so and so won't work, I do like to find out for myself, just the nature of the beast I guess !! LOL
