I'm delighted you have now restored the Lorch into working order David; it looks splendid; I liked it from first seeing it and just knew it would be a major asset to your workshop. even a lathe as small as this will do a surprising amount of work as long as light cuts are taken; I can imagine how sweetly it runs and it will give you endless pleasure and service.
It is of course a precision lathe and what a joy it is for you to have the draw bar and collets.
Tooling for such a small lathe should be reasonably cheap and for general cutting 1/4" or 3/8" HSS (high speed steel) blanks will be ideal as you can sharpen these at home to any profile. A small boring bar will also be extremely useful.
I'm pleased to have helped in some small way and if I can help further please just ask. It didn't take long for a queue to form should you decide to part with this delightful lathe and I bet now that you have an engineering lathe you will never be without. Be careful though David because I think Alan is considering parting with an odd monster lathe or two and lathes are addictive.
