I deliberately didn't fit an RCD in my workshop although it could be argued that it is part of the house anyway, not a remote building. I routinely test equipment using a plug in RCD but sometimes I dry out things like heating elements that have been stored in damp conditions. The damp seeps into the insulation and they would just keep tripping before they could dry out if run on an RCD supply.
