I use Alt Berg hiking boots. These https://www.altberg.co.uk/boots/5-width-...ethera-men
Sounds European - but the company is in Yorkshire! They also make Police and Military boots - so they know a thing or two about boot making
Now they look pricey at £280. I have two pairs. Alt Berg has resoled one pair twice (£85 for each resole at their factory) and I've walked around 3000 - 4000 miles in that pair without a drop of water getting in.
The other pair is due for a first resole at around 1500 miles.
The Tethera is in half size length and 5 width fittings. So you go somewhere that works out what size you need and then Alt Berg build them for you. For us the closest is in Leamington Spa (60 miles away)
So although the price looks high, you get some serious mileage over tough ground
But can I understand a pair of really high quality shoes from Lobb being around 5x the cost of a pair of hiking boots? Well yes I can. They would not be for me, nice shoes though they are, because I would rarely use them.
