I have one of these lathes and a milling machine using the permanent magnet brushed DC motor. If it wasn't for armature resistance and a floppy power supply a permeant magnet DC motor is for all needs constant speed. As MW0SEC said a bit of speed reduction on load is a good safety measure.
I want a PNP valve!
