When I was a young whippersnapper I bought an 8 inch Pyrex blank, silicon powders of various grades
and ground and polished my own mirror.
Amazing it can be tested using just a razor blade and lamp. ( The Foucault test, )
The tube was moulded with fibre glass and gearing was a threaded rod pulled around
and fixed around a 12" Picador pulley !
