I'd imagine very tricky to point without a calibrated mount.
Indeed, pointing 1200mm DSLR vs a phone, or aligning a 1.2m dish on a motor vs sky dish.
No wonder big 'scopes have a little 'scope to help point.
You'd not have a really big dish without a AzEl motor and computer as even "normal" TV satellites are slightly elliptical orbits to save fuel.
