Had to look up where M42 was:

"M42, also known as the Orion Nebula, is located within the Milky Way galaxy, specifically in the constellation of Orion. It is a stellar nursery, a region where new stars are forming, and is situated within the Orion Arm of our galaxy, according to Wikipedia. The nebula is approximately 1,344 light-years away from Earth"

As Doodlebug said thats really impressive. That is a long long way away ...
