Mid 1970s I was in BBC, then till 1979/1990 an AV company (installs up to colour studios and servicing). Barco was the most advanced TV with multistandard AV we sold and serviced. Belgian. Some Sony models too. After that till Jan 1983 I ran my own company doing all kinds of custom mpu stuff and servicing Schools computers. With the Apple II it was the SMPSU. People wanted the RM380Z modded for 8 bit instead of 7 bit printer parallel port so Epson MX graphic would print. It only needed a cut track and a jumper wire. What were Research Machines thinking of? The most of the work was getting the card out because the main bus was a ribbon cable across the top of all the cards! Again, what were RM thinking of?
The Ferguson TX10 was maybe first common native isolated UK model? Also with TX9 & TX10 Thorn had made a real effort to improve quality and reliability. Barco and Sony certainly earlier.
